Cape Town · small kiln batches

Clay, care, and time.

Gecko Pots makes hand-thrown and hand-built bonsai vessels for trees that deserve a steady home. Each pot begins in our Cape Town studio and leaves ready to grow with its owner.

A pot should help a tree feel at home.

Bonsai asks for patience. A vessel should meet that patience with the right balance: enough room for roots, open drainage, a stable footing and a shape that lets the tree lead.

We started Gecko Pots to make those vessels in South Africa, close to the trees and people who use them. Our range moves from small training pots to statement pieces, all made in batches small enough for every form and finish to receive attention.

Made slowly, made to be used.

Our work follows the rhythm of the clay: shape it, let it settle, fire it, then make sure it is ready for a living tree.

01 / Shape

Hands on clay

We wheel-throw and hand-build each form, paying close attention to proportion, lip and foot.

02 / Fire

Stoneware strength

Each batch is fired for a durable, frost-safe body that stands up to seasons outdoors.

03 / Finish

Tested glazes

Glaze batches are tested on offcuts first, so the finish is considered before it reaches a pot.

Settle your tree in well.

Three small details make a new pot a better home from the first planting.

01 / Drainage

Cover the holes with mesh

Mesh keeps substrate in place while water moves freely. Tie it down before adding soil.

02 / Proportion

Match the root spread

Choose a vessel that gives the roots room to settle while keeping the tree in proportion.

03 / Stability

Wire the tree in

Anchor the rootball through the base holes so the tree stays steady as new roots take hold.
